My Path to ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity
B

I am a IT student from Dharan, Nepal.

As I sit here, reflecting on my recent achievement of becoming ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity, I can't help but marvel at the journey that brought me to this point. It's a journey that I believe many students can relate to – one filled with excitement, challenges, and personal growth.

"The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step," Lao Tzu once said, and my first step was sparked by a simple discovery. As a bachelor's student in IT without a specific specialization, I stumbled upon the ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity exam – a certification that, surprisingly, cost nothing to attempt. The allure of the title and the potential it held for my future was impossible to ignore.

My foray into cybersecurity was not without its hurdles. Like many students, I grappled with time management, procrastination, and self-doubt. There were days when maintaining a healthy lifestyle seemed impossible, and my decision-making skills were put to the test. Communication, too, was a challenge I had to overcome.

But as Nelson Mandela wisely stated, "I never lose. I either win or learn." Each obstacle became a lesson, each setback a stepping stone. Through this process, I learned the importance of dreaming big, staying silent when necessary, and surrounding myself with supportive individuals who could guide me along this path.

The cybersecurity community, I discovered, is filled with experienced professionals willing to share their knowledge. Their insights were invaluable, reminding me that everyone's journey is unique. Some advice resonated, while other suggestions didn't quite fit – but each interaction taught me something new about the field and myself.

As I progressed, I began to understand the true meaning behind Steve Jobs' words: "Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work." This certification is just the beginning of my journey in IT, but it's a journey I've come to love genuinely.

To my fellow students embarking on similar paths, I offer these lessons learned:

  1. Dream big – set ambitious goals for yourself.

  2. Practice silence – sometimes, it's the most powerful response.

  3. Nurture your connections and hone your communication skills.

  4. Be prepared to make sacrifices for your dreams.

  5. Treat others with respect and humility.

  6. Kindness goes a long way – be nice to those around you.

  7. Work hard towards your aspirations.

  8. Prioritize your health – it's your most valuable asset.

  9. Accept yourself, flaws and all.

  10. Let go of things beyond your control.

As I look to the future, I'm filled with both excitement and uncertainty. I don't know what tomorrow holds or if this path will lead to professional fulfillment. But I do know that I'm committed to giving my best, to continually learning and growing in this dynamic field.

In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, "What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." So here's to the journey ahead – may it be as rewarding as the path that led me here.
